Synopsis

"The triangle square (Triangeln) is probably the oldest preserved road junction in Malmö. Already in the early Middle Ages when the town was still a farming village, by the historians called Övre Malmö, located at the Pildammarna, this junction was found.  The present Södra Förstadsgatan led north to the sea and south to Söderslätt, Ystad, Trelleborg, and Skanör.  During the 19th century, Södra Förstadsgatan developed into a strip with relatively dense detached houses and the intersection at the Triangle became more important as the center.  At the turn of 1900, the low-rise buildings were replaced with higher buildings.
Most people believe that the Triangle name derives from the shape of the square, but that is not the case. The name is rooted in the triangular refuge - created for the Baltic Exhibition in 1914 - which once lay in the middle of the Triangle."
